Jane’s brother Jon and sister-in-law Nancy have an 18-foot Bennington pontoon boat and they treated us to rides on several waterways near Chattanooga.

Our first excursion was to Chatuge Lake near the Georgia/North Carolina border.

Chatuge Lake is about 2 hours from Atlanta and older cabins along its shoreline are being replaced by newer and much larger houses.
The lake is ringed by mountains.

We took two rides on the Tennessee River. We had hoped to visit two islands and claim geocaches that have gone unfound for eight years. The dock at Williams Island was posted so we passed on that one. We stopped at Audubon Island under the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Chattanooga and Jane and Dave looked for the cache unsuccessfully until it was too dark to continue.

This photo was taken near the coordinates for the Audubon Island cache. Someone has a good sense of humor–there are no roads on the island.
