Like Panum Crater, Obsidian Dome formed about 650 years ago as the result of a volcanic eruption. Unlike Panum Crater, Obsidian Dome has been mined. It’s easily explored on foot on mining roads. (Vehicular access is prohibited.)
Smoke from wildfires clouded the sky and gave the sunlight an orange hue which showed on the rocks.
