Sunstones are a calcium-rich variety of labradorite. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) allows for the non-commercial collection of sunstones from its property in the Rabbit Basin about two hours and seemingly hundreds of miles of dirt roads from Lakeview, Oregon. We had to go.

We were so excited about collecting our Sunstones that we neglected to take any context photos. We blatantly stole this photo from the BLM.
We collected for about three hours and found mostly very small (1/4 inch) Sunstones. Dave is showing off some of our favorites.
Some Sunstones have little bits of copper in them. Some are clear and others are opaque.
All of them meet the bright/shiny-ooh-I-have-to-pick-that-up test.
