October 27, 2021

We had quite a summer! We left Casa Grande April 26 and returned October 27. We stayed in 27 campgrounds in eight states and travelled 5,024 miles. (We reached 50,000 miles on the RV’s odometer between Las Vegas, Nevada and Kingman, Arizona on October 13.) We had high temperatures, lots of wind, and heavy smoke. We found old, unusual, and interesting geocaches. We met with friends from Casa Grande and family in Eugene, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. We visited ghost towns and took a jet boat through Hell’s Canyon on the Snake River. We hunted rocks and climbed a fire lookout. We followed portions of the Lewis and Clark and Nez Perce Trails. We had an incredible time.

Still, we were happy to return to Casa Grande for our fourth winter. We first stayed at Palm Creek Resort and Residences December 2019 through March 2020. We already knew we liked Casa Grande and as we stayed we came to like the park very much. We especially liked that our RV site had a view of Sacaton Mountain about 10 miles north as we have found desirable views from RV sites to be rare. When we found a lot in the park that also had that view, we contracted to have a two-bedroom, two-bathroom manufactured home put on it.

The house was scheduled to be delivered in May 2020 but COVID-19 delayed delivery until August. The house that was supposed to be ready in August wasn’t ready for us until December 1, 2020 and we spent last winter happily settling in. Here is an introduction to our life at Palm Creek.

This is our view of Sacaton Mountain from the edge of the greenbelt behind our house.
Front of the house. Landscaping will begin the week of 12/20.
Looking at the back of the house across the greenbelt.
A new house is being built on speculation by the park next to us. The site was prepared in September.
This house up the street from ours was delivered Friday. It usually takes about eight weeks to set the house–if all the parts are readily available. We’re told the wait for carports is about six months.
The Park has four pools.
Dogs and their owners can choose from among 12 dog parks (although this is the only one with agility equipment).
The Park’s 32 pickle ball courts were very busy recently with a national tournament.
This area hosts meeting rooms, card rooms, fitness center, library, mailroom, Guest Services, and studios for pottery, stained glass, silversmithing, and lapidary.
The ballroom is named the Three Palms Event Center. We wonder which three palms they were thinking of.
18 hole Golf course
Lawn bowling. The Park also has softball, hiking, bicycling, tennis, shuffleboard, and horseshoes.

Sunsets are often breathtaking.

We’re not sure what’s next for us. For now we’re enjoying our activities (woodworking, stained glass, pottery, lapidary and silversmithing for Dave; Song Circle, Native American-inspired flute, and line dance for Jane) and thinking about what we’ll do next. We have decided the RV is bigger than we want for exploring especially in the eastern U.S. and so we’ve placed it on consignment with a dealer in the Phoenix area. Whatever we do, we’ll continue to share our adventures.

A safe landing is always a good thing. Glad you made it back to your Western Headquarters. I didn’t see you mention anything about dulcimers, Jane. Is that the Song Circle? Anyway, you guys take care. Merry Christmas!
