Jane was back-and-forth about whether to attend her 50th (plus one) high school reunion but decided to go. The trip ended up being full of family, friends, and fun. Dave stayed in Reno with the cat.

Among Dave’s geocaching goals is completing his Jasmer challenge: Finding a cache hidden in each month since geocaching began in May 2000. He had found one in every month except August 2000. There are only two active geocaches in the U.S. that date from this month: Potter’s Pond in Utah which has been inaccessible because of snow whenever we have been near and Lake Lanier in Georgia, a mere(?) 129 miles and three hours from Chattanooga. Jane’s high school friend Morris Thompson proved what a good friend he is when he volunteered to do the driving. What could have been a tedious trip became a great chance to catch up.

The fake rock that hosts the cache is showing its age.

Jane was grateful for the opportunity to visit the campus where she went to high school and realized she had some great memories of her time there. The school is now a center for the creative arts.

The view from the high school includes Jane’s junior high school and the neighborhood where she lived during junior and senior high school.
The blank space on the wall of the commons used to host a clock. “All those wanting to help decorate the gym meet under the clock at 3:30.” Wonder what they do now.

Several posters/signs on the wall led Jane to conclude that, at least on the surface, high school is a kinder place than she experienced.

When Jane first saw these instructions she recalled the panic she felt when she couldn’t get the lock to open and she was going to be late for class.

The auditorium wasn’t big enough for the entire student body so a rotating selection of homerooms listened from their classrooms. Every day’s schedule included an activity period for assemblies, pep rallies, club meetings, and the like.
Jane enjoyed being backstage–painting scenery, managing props, or being stage manager.
The boys basketball team was GOOD but Jane remembers that the gym was larger then.
This was the office of the school paper which held the greatest part of Jane’s heart. Morris Thompson was editor and Jane was feature editor senior year.

Jane drove by the house her mother lived in from 1964-1993 (Jane was there 1964-1970). The Zillow estimated sales price is 30 times what her parents paid in about 1964.

The weekend was full of family, too. Jane stayed with her brother Jon and sister-in-law Nancy. Nancy’s son Austin and her granddaughters Laurel and Linden (Linde) were in town from Athens, Georgia to celebrate Nancy’s birthday.

Jane got her first ride on Jon and Nancy’s boat on Chickamauga Lake. Here Laurel, Linde, and Austin hang on while Jon gets everything stowed.

Jane’s flight out of Chattanooga was delayed an anxiety-inducing hour and a half. She had only about an hour to make her connection in Chicago. This following screen shot may contain the kindest text she ever received.
