Hells Gate State Park on the Snake River near Clarkston includes the Lewis and Clark Discovery Center, numerous hiking trails, an RV campground and marina and boat launch facilities.
The park had exhibits as well as one of the best movies we’ve seen about the Lewis and Clark expedition. Here are a few facts that impressed us.
Lewis purchased 3,500 pounds of supplies.
Each person would eat 9 pounds of meat each day when game was plentiful.
The expedition met 55 different cultural groups.
Members of the expedition sewed 338 pairs of moccasins.
