Staying in Eustis gave us an opportunity to visit with friends and hear great music.

When we lived in Orlando (1978-91), we became friends with a family down the street.  Connie Gill had a daughter three years old when our Elizabeth was born and then had a second daughter when Elizabeth was about eight months old.  Connie, Jane and the girls had all kinds of adventures:  Neighborhood walks, story time at the library, park explorations, and road trips to visit our parents in Marietta and Chattanooga.  We don’t get to see each other often, but when we do it’s like we’ve never been apart.  Connie drove over from Orlando and joined us for lunch at The Goblin Market in Mt. Dora.

Jane met fellow dulcimer player Jay Waters when both lived on the Treasure Coast.  Jay has moved to Sanford and came over to Eustis for some chatting and playing.  Jay remembers lots of verses to old tunes, so we had a good time with “Shortnin’ Bread” and “Waterbound”.

The county fairgrounds are next to the campground where we stayed and we saw there was a weekly farmers’ market there.  We’ve found that sometimes farmers’ markets don’t live up to our expectations.  This one surpassed them!  It had some flea market-like elements, but had great produce at very reasonable prices.  We spent the better part of the morning there.

Yes, they are selling both palm trees and golf carts!
