Members of the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) developed DeSoto State Park in the mid 1930’s.

We were impressed with this large beauty berry bush near the camp store.

                 Lodge Falls from the front

From behind Lodge Falls

Laurel Falls

                 Lost Falls

This waterfall wasn’t named on the trail or trail map.  Must be we discovered it.

DeSoto Falls is not far outside of the park.

The west fork of the Little River tumbles over a concrete dam bill in 1925 for Alabama’s first hydroelectric plant.

From the dam the water flows down smaller falls and then . . .

                 drops over a hundred feet.

I am really liking the falls. It looks like you are doing a lot of hiking which is keeping you both in great shape. When we were just in NC and walked down to a fall and then back up I was huffing and puffing. We were walking fairly fast but with no hills in Florida we sure don’t get in shape for doing any hiking trails!!!

Thanks for the compliment. We were working up to better shape in South Dakota when we were hiking every day. Not so much now, but we do enjoy it when we get out. The elevations on this hike were gentle so we felt pretty competent.
