The Little River has eroded a gorge up to 500 feet deep as it runs along the top of Lookout Mountain at the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau.

We started with a visit to the Little River Canyon Center, operated by the National Park Service and Jacksonville State University which offers a field school there.  Somebody there has an unusual sense of humor.

Outside, enjoyed fall colors and, of course, the river.

The river falls 45 feet at Little River Falls.

A scenic drive follows the river

Grace’s High Falls

The unusual rock pictured below is shaped like a mushroom at the top and a needle’s eye at the bottom.

Other interesting rock formations are found in the immediate area.

Loved the pictures of the falls. What camera is Dave using?

Thanks. Dave is using a Nikon CoolPix A900. I’m using a Canon SX 720.
