That Medora is a tourist-oriented town is evident in comparison of its population and its theater seating:  210 to 2853, respectively.  Besides Theodore Roosevelt National Park, we took advantage of two productions.

Joe Wiegand portrayed Teddy Roosevelt in “A Teddy Roosevelt Salute to Medora”.  He was enthusiastic and warm and inspiring.

“Medora Musical 2017” is held in the Burning Hills Amphitheatre where summer musicals have been presented since 1958.

We hadn’t seen elk on our drives or walks in the area, so we were very excited to see a couple of elk on the hill opposite the theater as the audience filed in .

Our enthusiasm was dimmed only a little when two cowboys herded them off the hill just before curtain.

The production was highly professional:

The sets were well-done and interesting.

The cast included 12 singers and dancers in costumes that were in turn glitzy, poignant, and patriotic.

Audience participation (12 years and under) was encouraged.

Co-hosts provided both comic relief and food for thought about the meaning of heroism.

On-stage horses added authenticity.

Props were amusing and held the audience’s attention.

Featured performers were AntiGravity, an aerial and acrobatic group.

The production was held together by a six-piece band.

Medora Musical was a fun way to say good-bye to the Dakotas.

Looks a little “disneyish” but probably fun
